Trakfast Tool Repair Before you go to the trouble of shipping your Trakfast tool for repair, let’s check a couple of simple things that may get you up and running. Keep in mind, the Trakfast tool is actually an internal combustion engine and as such needs fuel, ignition and compression to fire. So, like with a car, start with the simplest things first. Ramset has a reasonable repair service with fixed rates if you do need to send it in. More info on that below.
The Fuel Sometimes you may shake a fuel cell and hear fuel but that may not be the case You may actually be hearing the propellant that pressurizes the inner part of the cell. So, first try a new fuel cell. I know that sounds pretty obvious, but we have “repaired” a fair number of tools that were simply “out of gas” We stock extra fuel cells, TFUEL for the TF1100 and TF1200, T3FUEL for the T3SS and T3MAG tools and T4FUEL for the T4SS and TFMAG.
The Battery And Or Charger Again, super simple to check. Sometimes an LED indicator on the tool may blink red indicating low voltage. It’s not a bad idea to check you charger as well. The Ramset Trakfast tools come with two batteries. I recommend marking them #1, #2 or whatever so you can keep track of any bad ones. We stock batteries and chargers for the TF1200, T3SS, T3MAG, T4SS and T4MAG tools. Batteries for the TF1100 have been discontinued. You may be able to have them rebuilt by someone like Batteries plus.
Compression This gets a little more interesting. If your Trakfast tries to fire but just goes “poof” with very little if any driving power, it is typically the piston not resetting and compression is lost. One thing we have seen with the Trakfast is that tools that are not fired regularly or if they are exposed to high humidity changes, tend to get sticky cylinders not allowing the piston to return. You can try forcing the piston back from the drive end of the tool using something like a Phillips screwdriver, making a shot and then repeating a few time. That may do the trick. A quick repair would be taking the top end of the tool apart and removing the piston and oiling the cylinder very lightly, like maybe a drop or tool of air tool oil. Other issues causing the piston not to reset include a nail jam, a bad valve or o rings. You may want to consider sending the tool in.
Where To Get Your Trakfast Tool Repaired As mentioned earlier, Ramset has a straightforward repair plan. Click here for their pricing structure which currently includes return shipping. Turnaround time isn’t too bad but if you are dead in the water, it may be time to consider a new tool and get the old one fixed as a backup. That’s a call you will make but if your tool is getting a little older and the batteries are getting weak, it may be time.
In Conclusion I hope that gives you a little help. Sometimes the repair on your Ramset Trakfast tools is very simple and you can keep right on moving. If you do have something more serious, Ramset’s pricing schedule can help you make a choice to repair or replace.
